STUDY NOTES — verse by verse. [Brackets] mark English helper words. Hebrew quoted word-for-word from the Tanakh, never invented. “Lord” = kurios (title), never the Name. Greek in pinned comment; apparatus free below.
• Rev 1:12 — Sinaiticus reads ἐλάλει (“was speaking”); P98 (2nd c.) extant here, no variant. Lit: “And I turned to see the voice which was speaking with me; and having turned I saw seven lampstands golden,” Heb, Zech 4:2: וְהִנֵּה מְנוֹרַת זָהָב כֻּלָּהּ — “and behold, a lampstand of gold, all of it.”
• Rev 1:13 — Sinaiticus reads ὅμοιον υἱόν (accusative) and adds ἑπτά. Lit: “and in [the] midst of the lampstands [one] like a son of man, [one] clothed [in] a robe reaching to the feet and girded at the breasts [with] a sash golden.” Heb, Dan 7:13 (Aramaic): וַאֲרוּ עִם עֲנָנֵי שְׁמַיָּא כְּבַר אֱנָשׁ — “and behold, with the clouds of heaven, like a son of man.”
• Rev 1:14 — Sinaiticus reads ὡς ἔριον (“as wool”); P98 extant, no variant. Lit: “and the head of him and the hairs white as wool white, as snow, and the eyes of him as a flame of fire,” Heb, Dan 7:9 (Aramaic): וּשְׂעַר רֵאשֵׁהּ כַּעֲמַר נְקֵא — “and the hair of his head [was] like wool, pure.”
• Rev 1:15 — Sinaiticus reads πεπυρωμένῳ (dative); Alexandrinus agrees with the printed text. Lit: “and the feet of him like fine bronze, as in a furnace having been fired, and the voice of him as a voice of many waters,” Heb, Ezek 43:2: וְקוֹלוֹ כְּקוֹל מַיִם רַבִּים — “and his voice [was] like the sound of many waters.”
• Rev 1:16 — Sinaiticus, no variants; P98 extant, no variant. Lit: “and holding in the right hand of him seven stars, and out of the mouth of him a sword double edged, sharp, going forth, and the appearance of him as the sun shines in the power of it.” Heb, Isa 49:2: וַיָּשֶׂם פִּי כְּחֶרֶב חַדָּה — “and he made my mouth like a sharp sword.”
• Rev 1:17 — Sinaiticus, no variants. Lit: “And when I saw him, I fell to the feet of him as dead; and he placed the right [hand] of him upon me, saying, Do not fear; I am the First and the Last,” Heb, Isa 44:6: אֲנִי רִאשׁוֹן וַאֲנִי אַחֲרוֹן — “I [am] first and I [am] last.”
